Amaya Lopez writes on the technology benefits that smartphone addiction can bring.
Have you ever thought how many times a day do you check your Smartphone? No, right?
Research on phone usage, done by Dr Sally Andrews of Nottingham Trent University revealed that we check it on average of 85 times a day. We spend more than five hours using the phone. But this is not surprising considering we have grown up in a world where access to the internet is constantly at our fingertips. We’re able to connect with people at the touch of a button. People call us “Millenials”, Generation Y or Z.
Besides, if the mobile phone giants launch new devices with the latest technology, we’ll buy microrobots instead of smartphones very soon.
We have to admit that we live in a consumer society; we want state-of-the-art technology and we want it now. Humanity is non-conformist by nature.
Everything has its positive side, however. Smartphones have made several aspects of our lives much easier. They save us time in many daily procedures: Going to the bank, checking the weather, visiting the doctor, and even going to the grocery store.
Smartphones allow us to be well informed about what’s happening around the world. They also bring us closer to people who live on the other side of the world.
Benefits of our Addiction
Smartphones are now an mp3 player – Who needs an mp3 player if they can have all music of the world in the same device?
And don’t forget social media! We are constantly connected to social networks where we can “disconnect” for a moment and then return to our tasks.
Speaking of social media – Rosemary Haefner, chief human resources officer at CareerBuilder – suggests that companies acknowledge that their workers aren’t only online to carry out their work. They’re also going to check many other websites as a distraction. For this reason, she encourages to have an open dialogue with employees about tech distractions. Admit their existence and discuss solutions to keeping productivity up.
Smartphones and their technology benefits make our lives much easier in many different aspects. But we have to use them in an appropriate way.
